What Ask Fernando is
Ask Fernando is an AI assistant — you're always talking to an AI, never a real person, even though “Fernando” has a friendly character and voice. It can get things wrong, so please don't treat anything it tells you as professional advice (medical, legal, financial, or otherwise).
What the hotel does
Every room and service, in plain words: what it is for, and what happens to what you give it. The Privacy Policy has the detail of what is kept and for how long. Everything runs on the hotel's own machines unless it says otherwise.
The Lobby
Conversation and questions of every kind with Fernando. Your conversations are kept, encrypted, until you delete them or your account. Guests 18 and over can ask him to “remember” things about them; they can see and delete every one on their Account page.
The Study
Show Fernando a photograph of homework, a letter, a form or a page and work through it together. Guests 13 and over can also ask for an audio blog on a topic — a spoken piece made only from checked sources — and a short film of it. You can give a short line or a full brief of up to 4,000 characters; the brief guides the piece, but every fact still comes only from the sources, and anything they don't cover is left out and named at the end.
The Gallery, the Picture House and the Gramophone Room
Fernando paints a picture, brings a still picture to life as a short clip, or composes a piece of music from your description. Every request is checked against the rules for your age before anything is made, and every picture is checked again before you see it. Finished pictures, clips and music are kept on the server only for a short time, so save the ones you want.
Valets (13 and over)
A Valet is a member of staff you set up for one job — a homework coach, a hobby log, a training plan, a family history. It remembers your earlier conversations with it through notes you can read and wipe on the Valet's page. It can also keep pages you photograph and send you reminders. For guests 18 and over a Valet can also check in on something you are trying, and notes the details you give it word for word, so it never forgets them, and can prepare a finished document — a will, a CV, a plan — as a Word file or PDF when you ask; you can check and correct what it has noted. It can also write up the key points of what it has told you — its facts, insights and advice — as a document, each point checked against its own words in your conversations, though not against other sources. A document a Valet makes is a draft for you to check, not legal, medical or financial advice. A Valet follows the same rules for your age as Fernando.
Voice
Any guest can have Fernando's replies read aloud. Guests 13 and over can also talk to him in the listening room with their microphone. None of your audio is recorded or stored. What you say is turned into text on the hotel's own machines and appears in the conversation, where it is kept like anything you type.
Live information (off unless you turn it on)
With “Let Fernando send outside the hotel” switched on, Fernando may look up the weather, news, sport, trains or a web search from an outside service when you ask about something that changes day to day, and he tells you when he has. Only the smallest part of your question needed goes out, never your conversation or who you are, and every lookup is listed on your Account page. A Valet can be kept from ever doing this, and guests 18 and over can let a Valet gather news on its subject overnight.
Location (off unless you turn it on)
Shared only while you switch it on, used to answer that message, and never stored. Not offered to guests under 13.
“Wasn't helpful” reports and feedback
If you report a reply, a copy of that one exchange is kept for 30 days so the desk can put it right, only if you tick the box agreeing to it. It is never used to train any AI model.
Age-appropriate experiences
What Fernando will help with depends on the year of birth given at signup: a different, more careful experience for guests under 13, another for guests aged 13 to 17, and a fuller experience for guests 18 and over. Because we only ask for the year, we always assume the more protective age when it's ambiguous. Signing up with a false year of birth to get a different experience isn't allowed.
Rules for using this app
Please don't use Ask Fernando to try to get:
- Sexual content or graphic violence, in words or pictures — and anything sexual involving minors is never allowed, for anyone.
- Instructions for weapons, explosives, or making illegal drugs.
- Help with anything illegal, or with seriously harming yourself or others.
Requests like this are automatically flagged for a site admin to review, and your account may be temporarily paused while that happens.
If you're struggling
If you tell Fernando you're thinking about self-harm or suicide, or ask about dangerous medication use, he'll respond with support and helpline information — your account is not paused for this. We'd rather you keep talking to someone than feel shut out.
Accounts
Every new account is reviewed and approved by the site owner before it can be used; we may decline an account without giving a reason. Keep your password to yourself — your account is for you alone, and other guests can never see your conversations. You can change your password, or delete your account and everything in it, at any time from Account settings; if you forget your password, use the “Forgotten it?” link on the sign-in page.
When these terms change
When we add or change a feature in a way that changes what happens to your words, your voice or your data, we update these terms and the Privacy Policy. The next time you open the app we show you what changed and ask you to agree before you carry on. If you don't agree, you can sign out, or delete your account and everything in it from your Account page.
